Welcome to Out On These Acres! This is where I share my passion for garden exploration, homestyle food, and simple home methods all while bringing you along for the ride on our journey as first generational operators!

I grew up a farmer’s daughter on an operation consisting of cow/calf pairs, swine finishing, various row crops, no-till planting, and cover crops. So yes, a little bit of everything… I was also surrounded by three wonderful women who cooked wholesome meals daily, gardened passionately, and even got a little crafty. Yes, very blessed indeed.
I went off to college at my home state’s land grant university and while there I met my forever sweetheart, Justin. Together, we love taking care of our cows, exploring cattle genetics, making hay, and building our operation.
I love gardening! While I love planting my trusty basics, I also like to add new things to my garden. I love starting my plants from seed not only to save money, but also to have plants I might not be able to find locally.
Food preservation is something I love to continue to develop. There’s nothing like the satisfaction of having a stocked pantry with tasty food. And it does indeed help cut our grocery bill!
While I may not be an expert home maker, I’m all for simple methods to make our house run smoother. Whether it’s cleaning methods, creating healthy habits, or organizational tactics… I’m all in!

So that’s what it’s all about for me, living life to the fullest. I’d love for you to follow along as I share my story. I don’t promise it will always be pretty because, well… “pretty” isn’t really my thing. What I do promise is that it will be real.
Fun Facts About Me:
I have my bachelor’s in animal science on the pre-vet tract. But no, vet school wasn’t ever really in my plans. I just am kind of a practical science nerd. I find animal nutrition, health/immunology, and repro/genetics extremely interesting. Hand me a bull catalog and I’ll be MIA for hours.
I can’t claim to be a cat or a dog person, I love both. Currently we have a red heeler and a heeler/border collie mix. We love them both but you could make a solid bet that once we have our own property we’re going to have a good herd of farm cats… hopefully.
I love music. I play the piano and country music has my heart. Especially anything from the 90’s. Maybe that has something to do with me listening to Shania Twain, Martina McBride and LeAnn Rimes on repeat as a child…
I’ve been told that I’m an intense person, which can be both good and bad. I consider myself a very driven individual with clear values and goals. Sometimes people who don’t understand that can be intimidated.
I have always wanted to be involved with agriculture, however for a while in high school I debated being a teacher or going into a medical career. I know, I know… they’re hardly related.
